Science, Technology & Engineering (Kindergarten)
Overview:
Science instruction in Norfolk Public Schools is guided by the Massachusetts Curriculum Framework for Science, Technology/Engineering, including the Standards for Scientific Practice. Our approach emphasizes phenomena-based learning, where students explore natural and designed systems through hands-on and minds-on activities. Instruction encourages curiosity, questioning, and discussion, helping children develop the habits of scientists and engineers.
In Kindergarten, students build early science skills by observing the world around them, asking questions, and describing patterns in weather, plants, animals, and the environment. They also explore motion and forces through play and simple investigations and are introduced to design challenges that encourage creativity and problem-solving.
