Science, Technology & Engineering (Grade 6)

Science instruction in Norfolk Public Schools continues to emphasize phenomena-based inquiry, data analysis, and engineering design. Students are encouraged to ask questions, use models, and collaborate to test and refine their thinking. Instruction balances hands-on investigations with opportunities to explain reasoning through evidence-based discussions and writing.

In Sixth Grade, students study rationales for plate tectonics, the water cycle and weather, cells and the structure of living organisms, and properties of matter. They also deepen their engineering skills by designing and evaluating solutions to real-world problems, using mathematics and computational thinking as part of their work.
