Science, Technology & Engineering (Grade 2)
Science instruction in Norfolk Public Schools emphasizes active exploration, investigation, and discussion. Students build understanding of scientific concepts through hands-on tasks, modeling, and design challenges that connect directly to the world around them. Teachers encourage students to share their thinking, collect and analyze data, and consider evidence when making claims.
In Second Grade, students study properties of materials and how they can change, the life cycles of plants and animals, and the Earth’s landforms and water sources. They also engage in engineering design tasks, such as testing different materials to solve real-world problems.
