Science, Technology & Engineering (Grade 1)

Science instruction in Norfolk Public Schools is based on the Massachusetts Curriculum Framework for Science, Technology/Engineering, including the Standards for Scientific Practice. Instruction uses a hands-on, inquiry-based approach that helps students make sense of real-world phenomena. Students learn by investigating, modeling, and discussing what they discover.

In First Grade, students study patterns of the sun and moon; the needs of plants and animals; and how light and sound allow us to see and hear. They also begin to use simple models and design solutions to engineering problems.
