  • GO MATH! – OUR NEW MATH PROGRAM FOR 2012-2013

[4/25/12]

I am very pleased to announce that next year, the entire district will change its math program from Everyday Math to GO Math.  With the changes in the Common Core, the spiraling nature of Everyday Math is no longer a good fit.

After extensive research, the math committee (Anne Pizzi, Jen Pfeiffer, Sharon Griffin, Melissa Carnabuci, Ashley Ledger, Robin McFadden, Amy Binette, Debi O'Toole, Sarah Logan, and Carrie McSweeney) decided that Go Math is the best product for our needs.

GO Math does not align with the Common Core.  It was written for the Common Core - the first such program.  This is s a standard math program that is written in units.  It emphasizes depth of learning, not breadth.  It has a limited spiral.  The standard algorithms for addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division are taught.  The committee is now working on ways to enrich the product with projects and other work.

To hear more about this program, come to our May 31st Math Night at the HOD.  There will be more information on this night to follow.
