Developmental Math

Posted by Mrs. Pfeiffer in Math  |  Post a comment

Santa is not the only one thinking about budgets and money this month.

Our HOD second graders are busy making change from a dollar and our first graders are practicing counting mixed coins. Incorporating the strategy of counting up by tens, then adding the smaller number increments is helpful.  Getting that overall estimate or sense of about how much money is a great first step.

Including your child in the process of estimating the cost of items at the grocery store or on your holiday gift list is an authentic task that could prove to be useful for more than just mathematical conversations. There are so many rich texts out there this month, that highlight the joys of the season and the spirit of giving.

I hesitate to suggest just one. Rather try our online resource, eBooks, www.SylvanDellPublishing.com .

Once there, go to sign in, then click on site code and enter NG985T and enjoy books on a variety on topics including MATH.

Best wishes to you and yours this holiday
season,
