Jump Rope for Heart This year, the H. Olive Day students donated $2,316.30 to the American Heart Association. Thank-you to our H.O.D. families for generously donating to Jump Rope for Heart. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the TPA for supporting the PE program at H.O.D. Jump Rope For Heart

2nd Grade NewsThe 2nd grade students really enjoyed the annual skating trip to the Norfolk Arena. When I asked the 2nd graders about the trip, I heard many, many positive comments. 2nd Grade NewsThe 2nd grade students are having fun participating in a unit on ice-skating.  We have a great deal of fun working on developing ice skating skills and learning about safety rules to be observed when skating.  We will be taking a “real life” skating trip to the Norfolk Arena on Friday, February 15, 2013. Healthy Heart Club Update

We continue to jog each week for 5 minutes and most students will sign the 60-minute HHC wall this month. We’ve now accumulated a total of 9,900 minutes!The cold and snowy months have arrived. It’s very important to encourage indoor and outdoor activities that stimulate the brain and body. H.O.D. Healthy Heart Club (HHC) Update

Every 1st and 2nd grader has been jogging each week for 5 minutes and signed the 15-minute HHC wall.  We’ve now accumulated a total of 3,555 minutes!  This program is very motivating and encourages students to move and be active. Healthy Heart Club and Sport Stacking

The 1st and 2nd graders are participating in the H.O.D. Healthy Heart Club! Each week, they begin PE class with a 3, 4, or 5-minute jog. When they accumulate 15 minutes, they become members of the 15-minute club. Students sign their names to club level posters, which are displayed in the hallway. Students will have an opportunity to join the 30 minute, 45 minute, and 60 minute club as they accumulate minutes. We plan to track our minutes until the last week of school.
