Posted by Mrs. Levine in Music

Students will be learning about famous classical and jazz composers of the past as well as styles of music of various time periods and cultures this month.

Grade 3 students will be learning about the famous composer Ludwig van Beethoven. They will be learning to play one of his famous compositions on the recorder!

Grade 4 students will be learning about harmony as an important element in music.  Students will learn about chords and how they are formed.  Each student will have the opportunity to sing and strum simple chords on the ukulele, which will add harmony to the melodies they are singing.

Grade 5 students will be learning about the famous American composer, George Gershwin.  This will include listening to and singing some of Gershwin's most famous music.

Grade 6 students will be learning about jazz, improvisation as an element of jazz and the famous jazz composer Duke Ellington.  Students will "jam" together on one of Duke's famous tunes!
