It’s hard to believe that the end of the school is fast approaching.  All the students will be given the opportunity to create a scene from around town to help support the Norfolk Community Day art contest on May 25, 2012.  Afterwards, the third grade students will create textured paper that will be used to make collage illustrations based on Eric Carle’s and Leo Lionni’s books.  Fourth and fifth grade students will paint a still life based on Vince...

During the month of April the 3rd grade art students will celebrate the arrival of spring by creating a flower using a watercolor crayon resist technique.  Third grade will also produce a chalk piece based on Vincent Van Gogh called silky sunflowers & swirling skies. The fourth grade art students will continue to explore camouflage by creating a natural habitat for a fish print. Art Show During Parent-Teacher Conferences

The hallways of the Freeman-Centennial School are lined with art work! Come find your child’s creation. Every student has one piece of art work displayed for the Art Show. The art work will start to come down after the March 8th parent teacher conferences. The Freeman-Centennial Art Show, March 6 & 8

During the month of February, students will be preparing for two events in March, Read Across America and the Freeman Centennial Art Show. Read Across America is on March 2nd. The theme is green and will showcase Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax book. The Freeman Centennial Art show will take place during parent/teacher conference days on March 6th and 8th. Ceramic Castles, Glass Bottles, Birch Trees, & Rain Sticks

During the month of January, the Freeman-Centennial students will be keeping busy with various art projects. Sixth grade students will build a 3-D ceramic castle, which will be placed within a European scene. The scene will include knights and fair maidens. Fifth grade students will be decorating a glass bottle to accompany their Explorers project. Connecting Art with the Current Curriculum

During the upcoming month, students in the art room will be creating various projects to support the classroom curriculum. The third grade will continue to make Native American projects by building and painting ceramic coil pots. A musical instrument based on Native American animal rattles will follow this. November Art

As the art program moves into November, student art projects for each grade level will support the curriculum content areas within the classroom. During the next few months, sixth grade students will be creating a Latin American Folk Art Print, which is based on Mexican serapes and images from Latin American Folk Art.
